Portugal Faces Early Elections After Government Collapses in Confidence Vote

Portugal is preparing for its third early election in just over three years. This follows the collapse of Prime Minister Luis Montenegro's center-right minority government in a confidence vote held on Tuesday night. President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will meet with parties on Wednesday. This is a procedural step before he can formally announce the election. Sousa indicated last week that the snap election could occur as early as May 11 or May 18.
