Israeli Forces Strike Gaza Amid Ceasefire Talks, Casualties Reported

Israeli forces conducted strikes in Gaza on March 9, 2025, amidst ongoing indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel to extend the ceasefire. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported targeting "several terrorists" in northern Gaza, claiming they were attempting to plant explosives near Israeli troops. Additionally, an Israeli drone reportedly fired upon individuals in the Zafarana area, east of the Maghazi refugee camp. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, an Israeli artillery bombardment in the Shujaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City, resulted in the deaths of two Palestinians and injuries to several others. Since the ceasefire's initial phase began on January 19, Israeli forces have killed over 100 Palestinians, including minors, in the buffer zone along the Gaza border and the Philadelphi Corridor. The current death toll reported by the Gaza Health Ministry stands at 48,453, with 111,860 injured, excluding the latest casualties. Negotiations for the second phase of the ceasefire have yet to yield results.
