A report from London's mayor's office, released Friday, indicates a 27% reduction in toxic gas emissions following the 2023 expansion of the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). The ULEZ, initially introduced in 2019, levies a daily charge on older, more polluting vehicles. The expansion in August 2023 brought an additional five million residents into the scope of the £12.50 ($16.14) daily charge. The report, analyzing the ULEZ's impact up to September 2024, found a 27% decrease in nitrogen dioxide levels. Air quality has improved in 99% of monitored locations since 2019.
