China Warns of Retaliation Amid Trade Tensions with the U.S.; Increases Defense Spending

China has stated it will "resist to the end" if the United States persists in harming its interests, responding to recent tariffs imposed by Washington. A Chinese embassy X post clarified China is ready to fight any trade or tariff war. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated China firmly opposes the U.S. decision to use fentanyl as a pretext for additional tariffs on Chinese exports, urging the U.S. to negotiate with China on equal terms. China has increased its defense spending by 7.2% for the third consecutive year, reaching $245.6 billion. This increase occurs amid rising tensions in the South China Sea and ongoing focus on Taiwan. Premier Li Qiang affirmed the country's commitment to enhancing combat readiness and safeguarding national sovereignty, opposing separatist activities and external interference regarding Taiwan.
