Trump Signals Support for Chagos Islands Deal Between UK and Mauritius

Mauritius' Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam has characterized U.S. President Donald Trump's remarks as "positive," suggesting Washington is likely to support an agreement concerning the future of a U.S.-UK military base in the Chagos Islands. Britain and Mauritius reached an agreement in October for the UK to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, while retaining control of the military base on Diego Garcia under a 99-year lease. Trump indicated his support for the deal during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House on Thursday.
