Argentina's Diplomatic Shifts Amid Controversial Support for Regimes

On January 10, 2025, Argentina witnessed significant diplomatic changes as two prominent figures, Castro and Raimundi, concluded their tenures marked by their unwavering support for controversial regimes. Castro served as Argentina's ambassador to Venezuela for six years, a record period, and navigated through the administrations of Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández from 2006 to 2012 before being appointed ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2012 to 2015.

Raimundi, initially a leader in the Radical Civic Union, later became a staunch advocate for the more radical elements of Kirchnerism. He held the position of Argentine ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS) during Alberto Fernández's presidency from February 2020 until December 10, 2023. His tenure was marked by controversy, as he faced disapproval from former Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero due to his outspoken support for Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, all of which have varying degrees of disassociation from the OAS.
