A new world record has been officially set in Uttarakhand. Renu Dhariyal, a 27-year-old Indian woman (at the time of measurement), has claimed the title for the longest hair among living women. Her hair measures an impressive 271.5 cm (8 feet 10 inches).
To put this in perspective, her hair is only one centimeter shorter than the height of Robert Wadlow, the tallest man in history, who stood at 272 cm. The previous record was held by Ukrainian Aaliya Nasyrova, with hair measuring 257.33 cm.
Renu has not cut her hair since 2015. She states that her inspiration comes from Indian tradition, where long hair is considered a symbol of beauty and femininity.
She cares for her hair exclusively with natural remedies, using homemade oils and shampoos, and shares the recipes on her YouTube channel. Washing and detangling hair of such length takes hours.
Guinness World Records experts officially certified the record in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, back in April 2026, though the story gained widespread attention in early August. In official photographs, Renu's hair is shown flowing across the floor, cascading from her bed, and encircling her as she sits.
The woman emphasizes that patience and avoiding chemicals are key. And, judging by the results, she has been remarkably successful.
