Sometimes crime news resembles the script of an absurd comedy.
In the American state of Maryland , a man stole a small black-and-white kitten named Magnolia from a pet store, and just a few minutes later went with her to rob a bank.
The man was detained, Magnolia was unharmed and soon found a new home.
Yes, the kitten turned out to be an unwilling accomplice.
First the kitten, then the bank
On the morning of July 13, a man entered Pet Supplies Plus in Beltsville, opened the enclosure where Magnolia was, grabbed her and ran out of the store.
Employees later said that the stranger had come there almost every day for about two weeks and showed particular interest in this cat.
But no one could have predicted what happened next.
With Magnolia in his arms, the man went to the nearby PNC bank.
There he asked a manager to hold the kitten while he wrote a note. He then handed it to the teller — it turned out to be a demand for money.
The robbery failed.
Police arrived very quickly and detained the suspect right on the spot. Magnolia was found completely unharmed in the bank manager's office.
So while the alleged criminal was being arrested, his 'accomplice' calmly waited for the operation to end in the boss's office.
Magnolia became a star
When the story hit the media, the internet instantly fell in love with the kitten.
Users joked that the police had arrested the wrong one, that Magnolia was the real mastermind of the robbery, and that the fluffy crime boss simply got out of the game gracefully.
But the story had a very happy ending.
After the incident, adoption applications for Magnolia poured in 21 applications. For comparison, according to representatives of the organization Beltsville Community Cats, an ordinary rescued kitten sometimes manages to get only a few applications.
In the end, Magnolia was given to a girl who had submitted an application before the famous robbery.
Now the former "bank criminal" lives at home, enjoys chicken-flavored treats, plays on a cat tree, and has acquired another kitten companion.
The criminal career lasted a few minutes
In one morning, Magnolia managed to go on an amazing journey:
from a kitten waiting for an owner, she turned into a kidnapped cat, then into an unwilling participant in an attempted bank robbery, after which she became an internet celebrity and finally found a family.
And perhaps the main outcome of this story is obvious:
the robber did not get the money, but the kitten hit the real jackpot.
