White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is stepping down from her position at the end of August. President Donald Trump announced this in a post on Truth Social.
The 28-year-old Leavitt is the youngest press secretary in U.S. history. She has held this post since the beginning of Trump's second term in January 2025.
Trump called her "one of his most trusted aides" and noted that her decision stems from a desire to spend more time with her children and family. "A decision I fully understand and respect," the president wrote.
Leavitt will, however, retain influence: Trump promised she would remain one of his "key external advisors" and an "influential voice" within the Republican Party.
This news comes amidst Leavitt's active tenure in the role, where she regularly conducted briefings and answered journalists' questions. Her departure raises the question: how will the administration's communication change in the coming months?
