Iran has submitted its response to a U.S. proposal for the cessation of hostilities through Pakistani intermediaries. According to an AP News report dated May 10, 2026, the document outlines terms for a permanent end to the conflict, nuclear program guarantees, and the resumption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The new Iranian proposal prioritizes a complete and immediate end to the war rather than the phased de-escalation framework suggested by Washington.
Iran’s Key Conditions
According to details from a 14-point plan—originally introduced in early May and reaffirmed in this latest response—Tehran is demanding the following:
- A 30-day resolution for all outstanding issues, accompanied by a total cessation of hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon.
- Non-aggression guarantees, the withdrawal of U.S. troops from neighboring regions, and an end to the maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
- The lifting of all U.S. sanctions, the unfreezing of Iranian assets, and the payment of reparations for damages.
- The establishment of an internationally supervised mechanism to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. StanceWhile the White House has yet to comment on Iran’s response, U.S. President Donald Trump took to social media to accuse Tehran of "playing games" with the United States for nearly 50 years, adding: "They won't be laughing anymore!"Washington had previously proposed a 60-day truce involving nuclear concessions in exchange for limited sanctions relief, but Iran dismissed the offer as inadequate, insisting on a comprehensive settlement. Negotiations mediated by Pakistan, Oman, and Qatar continue, though no breakthrough has been reached as of May 10.
