A senior US official said that the bilateral trade agreement between India and the United States is more than 90 percent ready. Only final issues remain, which are currently being worked through.
According to the official representative, the deal is capable of "taking the relationship to a new level" that had not been achieved for decades. Trade has always remained the most difficult point in bilateral ties.
"We are very close — it's like 90 percent plus, and only the last details remain to be finalized. I hope you will soon see the result," the official noted in response to a question from a PTI correspondent.
He emphasized that the agreement will open new horizons for partnership. "This will truly take US-India relations to a level we have not seen in trade for decades. Trade has always been the narrowest point in the relationship."
In the context of upcoming contacts, the official mentioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to India in October and the next meeting of Quad foreign ministers in New Delhi in May. This is already the third such meeting in a year — an unprecedented indicator of attention to the format.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi plans to visit the United States for the G20 summit in Florida in December, where important announcements are also possible. What exact turn will the finalization of the agreement take in the coming weeks?
