In Taichung, an elderly couple has run the family laundry Wansho Laundry for decades. Over that time, hundreds of items have piled up that customers never came back to collect.

Chang Wan-ji, 83 years old, and Hsu Sho-er, 84 years old, never threw the clothes away. Their 31-year-old grandson Reef Chang decided to use the wardrobe differently.

In June he set up the account @wantshowasyoung on Instagram. The goal was simple: to dispel his grandpa and grandma's boredom during the pandemic, when business at the laundry took a turn for the worse.

"My grandpa and grandma just looked out the window at the street because business wasn't going well," Rif explained to AFP. "I wanted to find something new and pleasant for them."

The couple began posing in vintage and bright outfits forgotten by customers. The photos quickly spread across the internet.

The account gained almost 600 thousand followers in a matter of weeks. The Taiwanese editions of Vogue and Marie Claire published their photos.

"Trying on these clothes makes me feel 30 years younger," Chang Wan-ji admitted to The Hindu.

Many write to him: "You're famous now and look younger." Hsu Sho-er added: "I'm old in age, but my heart doesn't grow old. I like putting on beautiful things and going out to have fun."

What makes people around the world respond so warmly to these simple photos?
