So it exists, then it doesn't... A Canadian island has decided to move again-1
A Canadian island decided to move: it disappeared and was found 30 kilometers from home.

In British Columbia, perhaps the most independent island in Canada has been discovered.

On a reservoir in British Columbia, a floating piece of land, which locals had grown accustomed to seeing appear and disappear, was suddenly found more than 18 miles from its previous position. It literally became an "island that decided to move."

And then the island... disappeared.

They searched for it using satellite images, scanned from planes and boats, and for a while the story looked as if a piece of Canada had simply decided it had had enough.

And then on 31 August the missing island was found.

The island was discovered approximately 30 kilometers to the northwest from where it was first seen. According to experts' calculations, the entire journey took about 15 days.

How can an island just get up and leave?

In fact, this is not quite an ordinary island.

Presumably, its base consists of a large number of logs, woody debris, and decomposing vegetation that have accumulated together over the years. Gradually, a layer of soil formed on top, plants took root, and even trees grew.

And when the water level rose, this entire huge structure could break away from the shore.

Then wind and water took over.

And the island went traveling.

So it turns out something like this dialogue:

Specialists: "Where is the island?"
Island: "On vacation."
Specialists: "Come back."
Island: "I'm already 30 kilometers away."

Now the fugitive has stopped

In the end, the floating island was washed ashore, and for now it remains there.

Moreover, the traveler has hardly suffered in appearance—the trees and vegetation remain in place.

However, those wishing to visit the new attraction are advised to admire it exclusively from a boat or a drone.

Walking on the island is dangerous: beneath the green surface lies an unstable mass of wood, so at any moment a foot could simply sink through.

But the most beautiful thing about this story is something else.

Usually people move together with their house.

But here the land itself decided to change its area of residence.

And if the island disappears again, at least it's now clear:

it hasn't gotten lost. It has simply gone somewhere again. 😄
