Sometimes the path to financial freedom begins not with investments or a lucky business venture, but... with a bag of empty cans.
A 39-year-old resident of Livingston County, Michigan, followed the same little ritual every Sunday: he collected used cans, turned them in for cash, and spent the change on lottery tickets.
And one day, this scheme unexpectedly worked with utterly indecent efficiency.
The man bought several instant lottery tickets Stampede Payout at a CVS store in South Lyon, put them in his car's glove compartment, and calmly went about his business.
In the evening, after dinner, he finally decided to check them.
One of the tickets turned out to be a winner — $500 000.
According to the winner, at first he started screaming and jumping for joy, and then he tried to check the ticket through the Michigan Lottery app. But he couldn't do it right away: his hands were shaking so badly that the phone simply couldn't scan the ticket properly.
The winner decided to keep his name a secret, but he has already shared what he plans to spend the money on: pay off his mortgage in full, take a vacation, and invite friends out for a nice dinner.
And perhaps the most wonderful part of this story is that the Sunday habit now has an ironclad justification.
