NASA and SpaceX postponed the Crew-13 launch: when checking matters more than schedule

In late August 2026, NASA and SpaceX announced a change in the launch date of the Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station. The reason was an oxidizer leak in the propulsion system of the Dragon spacecraft, detected during standard pre-launch preparations. Instead of the planned flight, the team began additional testing and data analysis, and a new launch date will be announced after the malfunction is fixed.

The mission crew remains the same: commander Jessica Watkins and pilot Luke Delaney from NASA, mission specialist Joshua Kutryk from the Canadian Space Agency, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergei Teteriatnikov. After arriving at the station, they will join Expedition 75. The launch was planned from pad SLC-40 at Cape Canaveral on a Falcon 9 rocket. The delay does not cancel the mission itself, but emphasizes how thoroughly every element is checked before sending people into space.

An oxidizer leak in the Dragon propulsion system is not uncommon in spacecraft preparation. Similar problems have occurred in cargo missions, and fixing them took weeks. In this case, joint NASA and SpaceX teams are conducting tests and refinements to eliminate risks during flight. This approach reflects the maturity of the commercial program: private companies not only accelerate launches but also adopt the strict safety standards of government agencies.
