June 2025, Missouri, USA - Ameren Missouri announced plans for the Big Hollow Energy Center.
This hybrid facility will combine an 800-megawatt (MW) natural gas energy center with a 400-MW lithium-ion battery storage system.
Located in Jefferson County, the center aims to enhance energy reliability and meet growing demand.
The natural gas component will provide energy during peak demand, while the battery system will store excess energy.
The project is slated for operation by 2028, creating investment and job opportunities.
Ameren Missouri plans to add 1,800 MW of capacity by 2030 and 2,300 MW by 2035.
