May 2024, India: Reliance Industries Ltd. has commissioned its first solar panel manufacturing line. This is part of a larger $10 billion plan for renewables, storage, and hydrogen, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2035.

The manufacturing will take place at a 5,000-acre site in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The site will include PV modules, batteries, hydrogen electrolyzers, and fuel cells. The initial solar PV module line has been commissioned.

The plant has a 10 GW per annum capacity for PV modules, expandable to 20 GW. Reliance is also focused on 30 GWh of battery manufacturing, with an initial 20 GWh capacity that is expandable. The company plans to generate 150 billion units of electricity and is building a green hydrogen complex at Kandla, Gujarat.

Reliance is also constructing 55 integrated compressed biogas (CBG) plants by 2025, with 10 currently operational. The first gigawatt-scale solar module manufacturing panels can generate 720 watts at peak. Land in the Kutch region of Gujarat will be used for solar electricity generation.

Reliance New Energy is building a $7.2 billion green energy manufacturing complex in Jamnagar. The complex will include solar PV, battery cell and storage systems, electrolyzers, and an R&D center. Reliance New Energy Solar acquired REC Group in 2021 to leverage its technology for integrated solar production.
