Opera Integrates AI Browser Operator: A Paradigm Shift in Web Browsing with Local Data Processing for Enhanced Privacy

Edited by: Veronika Nazarova

Opera is set to integrate an advanced AI directly into its browser, named AI Browser Operator, currently in the testing phase. This new functionality builds upon the existing AI platform, Aria, which provides a unified interface for answering questions and generating images.

The AI Browser Operator will be capable of navigating and interacting with web pages, enabling users to perform tasks such as booking hotels, ordering goods, and selecting services based on their preferences. The key innovation is that all functions will be executed within the browser, ensuring that no user data is transmitted externally without explicit consent. The browser will analyze the structure of web pages locally, eliminating the need to monitor the user's screen and enhancing privacy.

This feature aims to expedite online tasks by allowing the AI to handle processes like booking accommodations based on specific criteria, ultimately saving users time and effort. Opera emphasizes that the AI agent operates locally, differentiating it from other AI agents by prioritizing user privacy.

The Browser Operator is currently available as a preview, with plans for a full release soon. This move aligns with Opera's history of integrating features directly into the browser, such as messengers and VPNs, positioning it as a pioneer in AI-centric browsing.
