SpaceX is significantly expanding its Starlink antenna factory in Bastrop, Texas, to meet the growing global demand for its satellite internet service.
The expansion will add over 1 million square feet to the existing facility, bringing the total to 1.7 million square feet. This move aims to increase production beyond the current rate of 15,000 antennas per day, or 5.5 million annually. The expansion plans to increase production by 4.6 million antennas annually. The factory utilizes advanced robotics and automation to manufacture critical components, including phased array antennas and circuit boards. This has enabled SpaceX to drastically reduce production costs, from over $3,000 per antenna in the early days to a more competitive price point.
The increased production capacity will allow SpaceX to better serve its over 5 million global customers, particularly in remote areas with limited internet access, and to expand its coverage worldwide.
