Tangem Ring: A Wearable NFC Hardware Wallet with No Charging and Dual Backup Cards

Edited by: Tetiana Pin

Tangem has unveiled the Ring, the world’s first wearable hardware wallet designed to be worn directly on your finger. It offers a solution to the question millions of crypto enthusiasts have asked: how can private keys be kept readily available yet completely secure? The device utilizes NFC technology—simply tap the ring against your smartphone to access your assets instantly. Most importantly, it requires no batteries, no charging, and no cables.

Crafted from hypoallergenic zirconia ceramic, the ring is built to withstand almost anything. Boasting an IP69K rating, it easily handles scratches, dust, water, and extreme temperatures ranging from -25 to +50 °C. Inside lies a Samsung S3B512C chip certified at the EAL6+ level—the highest security standard available for consumer hardware wallets. The firmware is non-updatable, a unique Tangem feature that critically reduces the risk of remote attacks. Its proprietary Smart Backup technology is the standout feature: private keys are encrypted and distributed between the ring and two Tangem cards, with no other copies existing anywhere in the world.

Using it is simple: hold the ring to your smartphone, open the Tangem app, enter your passcode or use biometrics, and you’re all set. It supports over 6,000 cryptocurrencies and tokens across more than 85 blockchains, including the "big four" (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Smart Chain). Transactions, swaps, and receiving assets are all fully supported. Activation takes less than three minutes. Tangem guarantees the device will last at least 25 years, a claim backed by its history: since 2017, with over 2 million units released, the company has never been hacked.

The package includes one ring and two backup cards. Sizes are available from 8 to 13 on the US scale. If the ring is lost, there is no need to worry—access to funds remains available through the backup cards. To use the ring for a transaction, you must remove it and tap it against your phone, then enter a code or confirm with a fingerprint in the app. While this isn't a screen lock, it provides a sufficient level of security against unauthorized access.

The Ring is more convenient for daily wear than standard Tangem cards, as it requires no carrying case—simply wear it on your finger. However, there are downsides: an NFC-enabled smartphone is still required (providing total mobility but not complete autonomy), and the $160 price tag for the set is clearly intended for those willing to pay a premium for form factor and convenience.

If you already trust Tangem’s security and are ready to wear your wallet on your hand, the Ring is an ideal solution that offers the same protection in a completely different form factor.
