Snap Inc. has introduced its high-end SPECS AR glasses, entering the market with a $2,195 price tag. Pre-orders are currently open, with shipping expected to begin in the fall of 2026 for customers in the U.S., UK, and France.
The device is entirely standalone, operating without any external battery packs or cables. Depending on the frame size (47mm or 52mm), the glasses weigh between 132 and 136 grams, are constructed from Swiss TR90 polymer, and support prescription inserts for a wide range of diopters. The display, built on proprietary LCoS technology, provides a 51-degree field of view and renders 16 million colors with a low 7-millisecond latency.
Internally, SPECS utilize dual Snapdragon processors, with one chip dedicated to computer vision and the other managing the Lenses ecosystem. Running on Snap OS 2.0, the glasses support voice commands, hand gestures, and touch-based interactions. The manufacturer claims up to four hours of mixed-use battery life, covering video playback, AI assistance, and notifications. Additionally, the electrochromic lenses can automatically adjust their level of tint in just 10 seconds.
Compared to the developer's previous Spectacles, which weighed 226g with a 46-degree field of view, the new model is lighter and provides a broader perspective. Competitors like Meta's Orion and early prototypes from other manufacturers currently lag behind in terms of weight, battery life, and pre-order availability.
The primary drawbacks are the steep price tag and limited availability, as the launch is restricted to three countries with limited initial production volumes. Furthermore, Snap has not yet disclosed the exact battery capacity or the time required for a full charge.
For those willing to pay for the first truly standalone AR glasses with full computing capabilities, SPECS offer concrete specifications and a shipping timeline starting this fall.
