Apple's foldable iPhone Duo sells out in hours: pre-orders until 2027

Apple opened pre-orders for the iPhone Duo — its first foldable smartphone — on the morning of 16 October 2026, and within minutes delivery times had slipped to January 2027.

The company called demand "extraordinary." According to Apple, pre-orders for the foldable iPhone Duo exceeded all expectations, and supplies cannot keep up with demand. Wall Street analysts noted that interest in the device has significantly outstripped supply from the very first minutes.

The iPhone Duo features a 7,6-inch Super Retina XDR inner display and a 5,4-inch outer display. When unfolded, it is 5,2 mm thick — the thinnest iPhone in Apple's history. The outer display takes up 90 % of the screen area of the iPhone 18 Pro, while the inner one is 50 % larger than that of the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The device runs on the A20 Pro chip, supports Apple Pencil and has two batteries providing up to 31 hours of video on the inner display and up to 44 hours on the outer one.

The starting price is 1999 dollars for the 256 GB version. Options are available up to 2 TB. Pre-orders opened on 16 October, with official sales on 23 October. Colors: Night Sky and Star White. Titanium body, IP68 protection, eSIM only.

Compared with its predecessors in the iPhone 18 Pro line, the Duo offers a significantly larger screen area when unfolded and a completely new form factor. Competitors — the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold — cost from 1899 dollars, but do not have the same level of integration with the Apple ecosystem and Pencil support.

The problem is limited production: according to suppliers, Apple initially planned to produce around 6–10 million devices in 2026. High demand has meant that new orders will now be delivered only in 2027.

Those who want to get the iPhone Duo this year should keep an eye on availability at Apple stores on 23 October or consider higher-storage options, which may become available later.
