Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has partnered with Uber and WeRide to introduce self-driving vehicles.

Pilot operations are scheduled to commence by the end of 2025 via the Uber app, with a safety driver present initially. Full commercial driverless services are planned for 2026.

This initiative aligns with the Dubai Smart Self-Driving Transport Strategy, aiming for 25% of all trips to be autonomous by 2030. The RTA previously partnered with Baidu to bring 1,000 self-driving cars to Dubai by 2028.

In Abu Dhabi, Uber and WeRide launched the Middle East's first commercial driverless mobility service in December. Dubai also plans to introduce electric air taxis, with operations expected to begin in early 2026.
