Volkswagen has launched its Golf GTI in India, marking the brand's second GTI offering after the Polo GTI. It enters a market segment currently dominated by the Mini Cooper S.
The Golf GTI features a 2.0-liter TFSI turbo petrol engine, delivering 265hp, paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The Mini Cooper S also has a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine but offers 204hp and accelerates to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.
The Golf GTI is designed as a five-door hatchback, emphasizing practicality, while the Mini Cooper S comes in a three-door design, offering a compact and sporty feel. Both cars include features like digital instrument clusters, touchscreen infotainment systems, multi-drive modes, LED headlights, premium sound systems, and advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS).
The Mini Cooper S is priced at Rs 44.90 lakh (ex-showroom), with its JCW version at Rs 55.90 lakh. The Golf GTI's price is expected to be between Rs 50-60 lakh. The Golf GTI was introduced in a limited batch of 150 units, which have already sold out.
