Electric Cars Show Higher Reliability
ADAC (German Automobile Club) compared breakdown statistics between electric vehicles (EVs) and combustion engine cars. The study focused on models from 2020, 2021, and 2022, analyzing breakdown rates per 1,000 cars across 159 models and 20 brands.
Key Findings
EVs from 2020 experienced 8.5 breakdowns per 1,000 cars, compared to 12.9 for combustion engine cars.
In 2021, EVs had 4.3 breakdowns per 1,000 cars versus 8.2 for combustion engines.
For 2022 models, EVs recorded only 1.7 breakdowns per 1,000 cars, while combustion engines had 5.4.
The most common cause of breakdowns for both types was issues with the starter battery.
EV drivetrains have fewer moving parts, reducing the potential for mechanical failure. The ADAC statistics confirm the higher reliability of electric vehicles.
