France's Jean Zay supercomputer, a symbol of French technological excellence, now boasts a power of 125.9 petaflops, equivalent to 126 million billion operations per second. Located in France, this upgrade reinforces the country's central role in scientific research and AI. The supercomputer is available for free to university teams, startups, and large companies. Jean Zay, initially launched in 2019, has undergone several major expansions, including the latest Jean Zay 4 unveiled in 2023. This modernization enhances Jean Zay's capabilities to 126 million billion operations per second and increases its storage to 100 petabytes. Since 2019, AI projects on Jean Zay have surged from 72 to over 1400 in 2024, highlighting its key role in European research. This power opens opportunities in generative AI, biomedicine, climatology, fundamental physics, new materials, autonomous vehicles, agriculture, and even culture. Its energy efficiency features Nvidia GPUs and a hot water cooling system designed by Eviden. The supercomputer recovers residual heat to warm the equivalent of 1,500 homes on the Plateau de Saclay, showcasing a model of responsible technological innovation.
