ChatGPT User Base Reaches Milestone: 800 Million Users in 2025

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced at TED 2025 that ChatGPT has reached approximately 800 million users globally. This indicates a substantial adoption rate, representing a significant portion of the world's population engaging with OpenAI's AI systems.

Altman highlighted the platform's rapid expansion, noting a recent increase from around 500 million weekly active users. This growth is largely driven by positive user experiences and word-of-mouth referrals.

ChatGPT has experienced remarkable growth since its launch in November 2022. It achieved 100 million weekly active users by November 2023, and further expanded to 250 million by early 2024.

Financial Investments and Future Projections

OpenAI recently concluded a $40 billion funding round, spearheaded by SoftBank, with contributions from Microsoft and other investors. A considerable portion of this funding, $18 billion, is allocated to Project Stargate, a $500 billion initiative focused on developing AI infrastructure.

Despite its growth, OpenAI projects losses of approximately $5 billion in 2024, potentially escalating to $14 billion by 2026. The company's valuation is currently estimated at $300 billion, demonstrating strong investor confidence in ChatGPT and the broader artificial intelligence landscape.
