Waymo Tests Self-Driving Taxis in Tokyo with GO and JapanTaxi

Waymo, Alphabet's autonomous driving unit, has partnered with GO and JapanTaxi to test its self-driving taxi technology in Tokyo. Starting next week, Waymo will deploy its vehicles, equipped with advanced sensors, in seven districts of Tokyo to gather data on local traffic conditions and regulations. The tests aim to explore the feasibility of introducing driverless taxi services in Japan, where there are legal and social acceptance hurdles to overcome. JapanTaxi and GO will support the project by operating and maintaining the Waymo vehicles and promoting social acceptance of the technology.
