NASA and Microsoft Launch AI Tool to Simplify Earth Science Data Access

NASA has partnered with Microsoft to develop Earth Copilot, an AI tool designed to enhance access to Earth Science data collected from satellites.

Utilizing Microsoft’s Azure cloud and AI technology, Earth Copilot allows users to query complex datasets using simple language. For instance, users can ask questions like, "What was the impact of Hurricane Ian on Sanibel Island?" and receive accurate data-driven responses.

This initiative aims to assist a wide range of users, including scientists, researchers, policymakers, and educators, by streamlining data analysis and enhancing understanding of environmental topics such as weather and climate change.

Currently, NASA is testing Earth Copilot with its researchers. Once fully tested, the tool will be integrated into NASA’s VEDA platform as part of the agency's Open Science initiative, promoting broader access to scientific data.
