Punjab secured victory at the inaugural IGU Golf Sixes League, held at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. The event, organized by the Indian Golf Union, featured six state teams competing in a unique team format.
The winning team from Punjab comprised the duo of Upraj Singh and Zorawar, along with Shlok Limaye and Guransh, amassing a total of 40 points. Haryana finished as the runner-up with 43 points, while Uttar Pradesh secured the second runner-up position with 45 points.
The Golf Sixes League, designed to introduce junior golfers to the sport, employs a scramble best ball stroke play format. Each team consists of six players under the age of 12, with the two best scores from three pairs contributing to the final standings. The event was praised by R&A development manager Neal Graham as a valuable initiative for encouraging youth participation in golf.
IGU president Brijinder Singh highlighted the league's alignment with the goal of promoting inclusive golf, emphasizing its fast-paced and dynamic format as ideal for children and beginners.
