Marcin Durakiewicz Shatters Half Marathon World Record on Ice, Barefoot, in Lulea, Sweden

Marcin Durakiewicz, a Swiss athlete, has set a new world record for the half marathon on ice. He completed the race in Lulea, Sweden, on February 16th, with a time of 1 hour and 50.29 minutes. This achievement surpasses the previous record by approximately 11 seconds. Durakiewicz ran the Lulea Sea Ice Marathon barefoot, despite the subzero temperatures reaching -10 degrees Celsius. This marathon is one of only two half marathons globally conducted entirely on frozen sea ice. Beyond this recent feat, Durakiewicz holds multiple Guinness World Records, including the longest barefoot run at 3,409 kilometers, and the fastest barefoot Olympic-format triathlon, completed in 2 hours and 57.40 minutes. He also coaches for Al Ahli club. Durakiewicz utilized this event to raise funds for Diamond Soul, a charity focused on combating substance abuse and promoting healthy lifestyles through fitness and nutrition.
