The 2025 BET Awards nominations highlight the increasing impact of African artists on the global music scene. Stars like Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Rema, and Shallipopi have received nominations in prominent categories. The awards ceremony is scheduled for June 9 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.

Ayra Starr has earned nominations for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best New Artist, and Best International Act. She will be competing against SZA, Summer Walker, and Victoria Monét in the Best Female R&B/Pop Artist category.

Other Nominations

Several African artists are nominated for Best International Act, including Ayra Starr and Rema from Nigeria, Black Sherif from Ghana, Tyla from South Africa, and Uncle Waffles from eSwatini. Burna Boy is nominated for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, alongside Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Tyler the Creator. The BET Awards, established in 2001, celebrate African Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports, and entertainment.
