Ed Sheeran is featured on multiple global magazine covers and was named as one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2025, accompanied by an interview and tributes from Chris Hemsworth and Benny Blanco. Hemsworth praised Sheeran's ability to connect with audiences through his music, making listeners feel like each song was written specifically for them. Benny Blanco said that Sheeran's relatability comes from his humility and insecurity.

Sheeran revealed a shift in priorities, focusing on live performances in smaller venues and embracing fatherhood. He is prioritizing enjoyment over commercial success in his music career. Sheeran's new album, Play, is scheduled for release after the summer of 2025. The first single from the album, "Azizam", was released on April 4, 2025. The album was recorded partly in Goa, India, where Sheeran collaborated with over a dozen musicians, finding the experience liberating and distinct from Western pop music trends.

Sheeran also addressed his past plagiarism lawsuits and his struggles with grief and depression, emphasizing the importance of allowing oneself to feel grief. He mentioned writing over 320 songs for 'Play' over four years, eventually narrowing it down to around 13 tracks. The album is described as "playful, explorative, and celebratory".
