Will Smith Returns to Music with "Based on a True Story," Reflecting on Personal Struggles and Chart Success

Two decades after his last album, Will Smith has made a musical comeback with "Based on a True Story." This album marks a significant return to his roots as a musician, following a period of personal and professional challenges.

Smith describes the album as his most personal work, reflecting on experiences following the 2022 Oscars. The album features collaborations with artists like Chiller, Symba, Big Sean, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The project is envisioned as the first part of a trilogy, with Smith having recorded around 60 songs divided into thematic "seasons."

The album's first single, "Int. Barbershop - Day," directly addresses the criticisms Smith has faced. "You Can Make It," a gospel-infused track from the album, has already reached the top of Billboard's Gospel charts. Smith is also planning a tour with stops in Europe, the UK, and Morocco.
