Paraguay promotes salt awareness week for healthier diets

Paraguay is participating in World Salt Awareness Week, promoting reduced salt consumption. High salt intake increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases like hypertension. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends consuming less than five grams of salt daily, including salt in both natural and processed foods. Most salt intake comes from processed and ultra-processed foods. Reducing sodium intake lowers blood pressure in both children and adults, regardless of hypertension status. Awareness of sodium content in foods and new cooking methods are key to healthier eating.
