It turns out airplanes do too.
In Bangkok, one of the former Airbus A380 of Thai Airways found an unexpected new use: it was cut into sections, transported roughly 20 miles and turned into a restaurant attraction at a night market.
After the pandemic, several giant Thai Airways A380s were left without work and simply sat idle for years. But one of them did get a second chance — though no longer in the sky, but on the ground.
Now, instead of passengers, hungry visitors board, and instead of long-haul flights, the plane serves dinner and drinks.
The idea itself sounds almost perfect: if a huge airliner can no longer carry people to food, then the food simply needs to be brought to the airliner.
And, honestly, it is one of the most charming career changes of the year.
Not long ago, this A380 was associated with international flights, luggage and boarding passes.
Now — with an evening market, snacks and curious tourists who can literally have dinner inside a former giant of aviation.
A rare case when the expression “in-flight meal” has taken on a completely new meaning.
