Steven Soderbergh will join the filming of «The Batman 2» to help Matt Reeves complete the final weeks of the main schedule. Reeves has temporarily stepped away from the project due to family circumstances, and DC Studios has found a way to preserve his vision without halting production.
«The Batman 2» is the sequel to the grim neo-noir thriller of 2022. The action unfolds in a rainy, corrupt Gotham, where Bruce Wayne battles not only crime but also his own demons. The central tension is the search for truth in a world where power and morality are blurred. The viewer feels a heavy, atmospheric tension, as in a classic detective story, where every frame is steeped in loneliness and inevitability.
Soderbergh, a longtime admirer of Reeves's work, offered to help himself. He will work on set in London, while Reeves will work remotely from Los Angeles to ensure seamless integration of the new footage with the material already shot. After filming is completed, Reeves will return to post-production. The film is roughly two-thirds complete.
The studio officially confirmed: «Matt and Steven will work closely with the cast and crew to bring the director's vision to life». Soderbergh himself remarked: «Matt's work on the first «Batman» was astonishing — thoughtful, precise and cohesive. Our goal is to create material that organically complements what has already been shot».
Reeves personally denied rumors of his departure: «I am not leaving the project. I am deeply grateful to Steven for his help in this difficult time». The release date remains the same — 18 February 2028.
This story shows how the industry can respond flexibly to directors' personal crises without sacrificing creative control. For fans of the first part and those who appreciate serious, atmospheric cinema about Batman, this is a guarantee that the film will remain exactly as Reeves envisioned it.
