Art Basel 2025: Navigating Uncertainty and Showcasing Resilience

Edited by: Irena I

Art Basel 2025, held at Messe Basel from June 19 to 22, provided a crucial platform for the global art market to demonstrate its resilience. The event featured 289 galleries from 42 countries, presenting a diverse range of artworks across various media.

A highlight of the fair was the Parcours sector, curated by Stefanie Hessler, which featured over 20 site-specific installations throughout Basel. German artist Katharina Grosse also presented a major commission, creating a vibrant chromatic environment.

Despite a 12% decline in global art sales in 2024, Art Basel 2025 showed a more positive trend. The fair saw a shift towards mid-priced artworks, reflecting a cautious but resilient market response. The Baloise Art Prize recognized emerging talents, including Joyce Joumaa, whose work addresses the energy crisis in Lebanon.

Art Basel 2025 demonstrated the art market's adaptability amidst global uncertainties. The focus on mid-priced art, support for emerging artists, and innovative presentations highlight a dynamic art landscape.
