The Mercato della Cultura in Cutrofiano, Lecce, hosted a special event on May 21, 2025, celebrating the works of Antonio Infantino (1944-2018), particularly his poetry collection "I denti cariati e la patria." This event, organized by the Fondazione La Notte della Taranta in collaboration with the Circolo Culturale Antonio Infantino and the Compagnia Tarantarte, aimed to introduce Infantino's profound contributions to a new generation.
The evening included institutional greetings from Luigi Melissano, the Mayor of Cutrofiano, and featured insightful discussions by Daniela Castaldo from the Università del Salento, Maria Conforti from Sapienza Università di Roma, Maristella Martella from Compagnia Tarantarte, and Agostino Cortese and Pasquale Montesano from Circolo Culturale Antonio Infantino. Musical interludes were provided by Giuseppe Astore on violin and Roberto Chiga, both musicians from the Orchestra Popolare La Notte della Taranta.
Infantino, an architect, poet, and musician, blended tradition with avant-garde, leaving a significant mark on Italian culture. His collection, featuring a preface by Fernanda Pivano, critiques consumer society with irony and rhythm, bridging urban avant-garde with Southern Italy's ancient traditions. The event highlighted Infantino's lasting influence and the enduring relevance of his work.
