Egypt Showcases Oasis-Inspired Sustainability at Venice Architecture Biennale 2025

Edited by: Ek Soshnikova

Egypt is participating in the Venice Architecture Biennale, which runs from May 10 to November 23, 2025. The Egyptian pavilion, located in the Giardini, presents 'Let's Grasp the Mirage,' an interactive exploration of sustainability inspired by the ecosystems of Egyptian oases.

Curated by Salah Zikri, Ebrahim Zakaria, and Emad Fikry, the pavilion reflects on the balance between conservation and development, aligning with the Biennale's theme, 'Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.'. Visitors engage in a metaphorical game using yellow blocks (conservation) and blue-gray blocks (development) to create equilibrium on a suspended platform.

The installation integrates natural intelligence (desert ecosystems), artificial intelligence (efficient systems), and collective intelligence (cultural knowledge). Balanced configurations produce harmonious visuals and soundscapes, while imbalances result in disruptive responses, transforming the pavilion into a living ecosystem. This participation underscores Egypt's dedication to arts, culture, and international architectural dialogue.
