Nasa is seeking public assistance to classify thousands of galaxies imaged by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) through the Galaxy Zoo project. This citizen science initiative aims to expedite galaxy cataloging for advanced research models.
Galaxy Zoo invites individuals aged 10 and up to contribute to understanding galaxy evolution by analyzing shapes in over 500,000 galaxy images. Participants examine JWST images and answer questions about galaxy shapes, such as identifying spiral arms.
Since April 29, galaxies from the COSMOS-Web survey have been available, with JWST:CEERS data accessible from May 5. The project, which began in 2007, also utilizes AI (ZooBot) for pre-classification, relying on volunteers for complex galaxy structures to enhance AI learning.
