Student's AI Algorithm Discovers 1.5 Million New Space Objects
Matteo Paz, a student in the U.S., has made a significant contribution to astronomy by discovering over 1.5 million previously unknown space objects. This was achieved through an AI algorithm he developed, named VARnet. The algorithm's purpose was to analyze data from NASA's NEOWISE telescope.
VARnet is designed to identify patterns within the data that are not easily detected by human observation. It processes data at a remarkable speed, analyzing each source in just 53 microseconds. This rapid analysis allowed for the identification of a vast number of new space objects.
