A series of powerful storms struck Austria in June 2025, resulting in widespread damage and triggering extensive emergency responses across multiple federal states. The events underscore the destructive potential of severe weather and the strain it places on emergency services.
In Styria, a 77-year-old man was seriously injured when a tree fell on him while he was securing an awning. Nearly 1,000 firefighters were deployed to manage approximately 180 operations. The Graz-Umgebung district and parts of Eastern Styria were the most affected.
Lower Austria also faced significant challenges, with fire brigades responding to 120 operations, particularly in the Baden district. Property damage was reported, though there were no injuries. Upper Austria saw 170 operations handled by 148 fire brigades, with fallen trees and flooding being the primary issues.
Burgenland experienced numerous storm-related incidents, especially in the Oberwart district. The city of Salzburg saw over 70 operations, including roof damage and flooding. Vorarlberg saw 19 people rescued from a gondola after strong winds damaged the cable.
