New York State is grappling with a severe heatwave, leading Governor Kathy Hochul to declare a State of Emergency across 32 counties. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat watch, predicting temperatures close to 100°F (38°C) with heat indices reaching approximately 110°F (43°C) through Tuesday evening.
The heatwave is projected to continue through Thursday, with "feels like" temperatures exceeding 100°F (38°C) in numerous areas. Governor Hochul highlighted the seriousness of the situation, urging New Yorkers to take precautions to stay cool.
In response, the State Emergency Operations Center has been activated to coordinate resources and support local communities. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities, and utilize cooling centers available throughout the state. The New York State Department of Health has also launched a heat and health dashboard to assist residents in assessing heat exposure and health risks.
