A series of earthquakes has struck near the Tokara Islands in Japan, with the most recent significant event occurring on July 2, 2025, at 3:26 PM local time. This quake registered a seismic intensity of 5- on the small island of Takarajima in Kagoshima Prefecture.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake's magnitude was 5.5. This is part of a swarm of tremors that began on June 21st.

The agency is urging continued vigilance, as further earthquakes of similar intensity are possible. Residents are advised to prepare for potential landslides and rockfalls due to the unstable ground conditions.
