On June 24, 2025, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Albania, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The tremor was recorded shortly after 5 a.m. local time.

The epicenter was located approximately 16 kilometers northwest of Tirana, the capital, and about 8 kilometers southwest of Krujë. Several beaches are situated near the epicenter.

As of late morning on June 24, 2025, there were no reports of injuries or damage. Residents reported noticeable shaking on the EMSC website.

Albania is in a geologically active zone where the Adriatic Plate meets the Eurasian Plate, making earthquakes common. A devastating 6.4 magnitude earthquake on November 26, 2019, resulted in 51 deaths, approximately 3,000 injuries, and significant building damage in cities like Durrës, Thumana, and Tirana.

The Albanian government has increased measures to improve earthquake safety in recent years. A disaster strategy for 2023-2030 was announced in 2023, including infrastructure strengthening and improved emergency preparedness.

Despite these efforts, the region remains vulnerable to seismic activity due to its geological conditions. It is recommended to consult official sources for current information and safety instructions.
