Mount Spurr Volcano Unrest Continues in 2025: Eruption Not Imminent

Edited by: Tetiana Martynovska 17

Mount Spurr volcano continues to exhibit signs of unrest in May 2025, with small volcanic earthquakes detected beneath the surface. Despite this ongoing activity, satellite and webcam observations show no significant changes, and monitoring data suggests an eruption is not imminent.

Scientists are closely monitoring the volcano using seismic, infrasound, web camera, and GPS stations. They anticipate that any movement of magma closer to the surface would be preceded by changes in earthquake activity, ground deformation, gas emissions, and surface heating, providing advance warning of a potential eruption.

The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) is diligently tracking Mount Spurr's activity. The volcano's alert level remains at 'Advisory,' and the aviation color code is 'Yellow'. The AVO will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves.
