Semeru volcano in East Java, Indonesia, experienced four eruptions on April 22. The Indonesian Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported gray ash plumes.
The initial eruption occurred at 5:55 am local time, sending ash 800 meters high. Subsequent eruptions followed at 6:30 am, 8:41 am, and 12:08 pm, with ash columns reaching up to 800 meters.
The PVMBG has placed the volcano at the second level of danger. Residents are advised to avoid activities within a 3-kilometer radius of the summit and river courses originating from Semeru.
