Edited by: Tetiana Martynovska 17

Kanlaon Volcano, located in the Philippines, experienced a moderately explosive eruption on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 2:55 AM local time. The eruption lasted for approximately five minutes, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The eruption generated a greyish plume that rose about 4.5 kilometers above the vent, drifting southwest. Rumbling sounds were heard in Brgy. Pula, Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, and La Castellana, Negros Occidental. Pyroclastic density currents (PDCs) descended the southern slopes within approximately two kilometers of the crater.

Thin ashfall has been reported in several localities in Negros Occidental, including La Carlota City, Bago City, and La Castellana. PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 3 for Kanlaon, indicating increased chances of short-lived explosive eruptions. Communities within a 6-km radius of the summit crater are advised to evacuate due to the danger of PDCs, ballistic projectiles, ashfall, and other hazards.
