Mexico is currently grappling with extensive wildfires affecting 52,556 hectares across 24 states, according to a report released on April 18th. The National Forestry Commission (Conafor) reports 102 active fires nationwide.
Nearly 4,000 firefighters are battling the blazes. The most severely affected states include Sinaloa, Durango, Guerrero, and Zacatecas.
Experts note a concerning trend of increasing burned areas in recent years. Land use changes for agriculture and livestock, coupled with climate change, are contributing factors.
